This position is located in Columbia, Missouri.
The Mizzou Store is responsible for supporting the academic mission of University of Missouri, as well as supporting the MU brand through the sale of emblematic merchandise.
The Mizzou Publishing Department develops packets to be used as course material in the classroom; as well as managing/operating a publishing service. The seasonal retail assistant works with Mizzou Media staff in creating these packets from the beginning through the completion of the packet, including providing customer service to faculty, staff, and students of the University of Missouri.
Assist with inventory, stocking, pricing, etc., to ensure products are ready and available for sale in a timely and professional manner. Assist customers on the sales floor. Photocopy/scan books to facilitate the packet creation.
Operate and maintain the Espresso Book Machine and other equipment with supervision and guidance from experienced staff.
Deliver desk copies to various offices on campus. Deliver and pick up materials as necessary from the campus libraries and elsewhere on campus.
Complete preparation and layout of assigned packets according to established procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized work environment in the office and backroom, including emptying trash and recycle bins, organizing overstock, and breaking down empty boxes.
Assist with other areas in The Mizzou Store as necessary, including assisting customers on the sales floor and restocking textbooks.
As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve the customer and maintain our University Stores mission.
Functional supervision may be received from the Mizzou Media Coordinator and the Mizzou Media Student Supervisor. Administrative supervision may be received from the Assistant Textbook Manager and/or other designed manager.
No supervision is exercised.
Ability to communicate and comprehend verbal and written information/instruction.
Visual perception sufficient to examine printed materials for conformance to standards.
Ability to lift, reach, bend, squat, climb, stand, etc. as necessary to perform the physical aspects of the job.
The ability and patience to listen and understand the speech of a diverse customer base considering cultural, demographic, geographic and other important factors influencing communication.
Ability to work 20 hours per week on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends as scheduled.
Working hours may vary throughout the calendar year. Must be able to work the following:
15-20 hours per week during non-peak periods
30-40 hours per week during peak periods, including December, January and July, August.
Basic computer proficiency, including experience and knowledge of database systems and word processing programs.
Must be detail-oriented, with previous experience indicating ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must have proven outstanding customer service abilities. Capable of working with difficult customers on a regular basis.
The ability to perform professionally at all times, including providing professional correspondence via telephone, letters, and email.
Previous customer service experience.
Previous clerical experience.
Adobe Suite software experience preferred.
